PE
Intent
At Ann Cam School, we recognise the importance of physical education (PE) and the need to promote a positive attitude towards an active and healthy lifestyle. We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, giving all children the opportunity to develop their physical competence and confidence. The intent of our PE curriculum is to provide every pupil with high quality PE and sport provision. It is our vision that all children flourish throughout their PE journey from EYFS to Year 6. We aim to ensure all of our children leave primary school with the passion, knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for lifelong participation in physical activity.
Implementation
- PE at Ann Cam provides challenging and enjoyable learning through a range of sporting activities that cover hand-eye coordination, foot-eye coordination, functional movement, invasion games, striking and fielding games, swimming, gymnastics, dance and adventure.
- Pupils participate in at least 2 hour long high-quality PE lessons each week.
- At Ann Cam, we have a progressive curriculum that builds on prior knowledge and offers opportunities for revisiting.
- Teachers have access to long term and medium plans and can adapt and change to suit the needs of their children.
- Lessons are progressive and offer challenges to allow children to deepen their skills and understanding.
- We hire professional coaches to lead lessons for teachers to observe and learn from.
- Children are encouraged to participate in the varied range of extra-curricular activities. We provide inclusive and enjoyable clubs which increases children’s physical activity. Clubs are offered to both KS1 and KS2 children.
- Children are invited to attend competitive sporting events and festivals within the local area and beyond. This is an inclusive approach which endeavours to encourage not only physical development but also mental well-being. These events also develop teamwork and leadership skills and are very much enjoyed by children.
Impact
At Ann Cam C of E Primary School, we ensure that our PE curriculum is progressive and allows children to develop fundamental skills and tactics and apply them to a variety of sports and activities. All children are provided with the necessary skills and given opportunities to demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best. Our pupils are physically active, and this has a positive impact on their learning in the classroom. Children understand how to lead a healthy lifestyle and understand the importance of regular exercise. We aspire for children to enjoy PE and develop a love of sport and physical activity which becomes part of their future life outside of primary school. Children can represent the school at sporting events from local to county level. Alongside this, we share sporting achievements both in and out of school in Celebration Assembly, so that we are promoting sports and activities, as well as celebrating all levels of success. We aim for all Year 6 pupils to leave school with the skills to competently swim at least 25m.
